It is with great sadness that the family of Jackie Lee Britten, 82, announces his passing on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Heartland of Zephyrhills nursing home in Pasco County, Florida after a long illness.
Jack was born on August 10, 1936 in Rossburg, Darke County, Ohio, to parents Edward Vernon Britten & Carrie (Donovan) Britten. Jack was raised in Celina, Ohio. He and his wife, Virginia, moved from Huntington County, Indiana to Dade City, Florida in 1995, after retirement. Jack was a Navy veteran who served on the USS C.K. Bronson, DD668, 1954-1957. While in service, he got to visit 28 countries during many missions. Later in life his occupation of choice was truck driving, which he did for over 20 years, mostly over a three-state area. He was also a member of the Central States Teamsters Union.
Jack loved to travel with his family. He and his family participated in the Pioneer Village at the Forks of the Wabash Festival every September in Huntington, Indiana for many years. Jack was the life of every party for all his family and friends throughout Ohio, Indiana and Florida.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Brush) and their children: Brenda Dunnuck, James (Cheri), Penny (Rich) Shenefield, Kimberly (Jim) Hethcote, and Christopher (Roxanne), all of Huntington County, Indiana; and Charles (Carol) of Cleburn, Texas. Jack is survived by 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Judith (Frank) Crabtree in Celina, Ohio; his brother-in-law, John T. Brush of Dade City, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents, Jack was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Juanita (Richard) Rosendahl of Yuma, Arizona; and Bette Ann (Ivor M.) Morris of Celina, Ohio.
